Coldplay Greatness

Along with U2, Coldplay is about as good as it gets for my music taste.  That preference got a big boost when I saw this music video for one of their older songs.  The song is pretty good, but the interpretive dance is even better.

Joshua’s Third Birthday Party

We had Joshua’s third birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese’s. All of the family came to celebrate with Chuck E. and win some awesome arcade prizes! Joshua had a great time with his cousins, as evidenced by his nap that began 2 minutes after we pulled out of the parking lot!

The Pickens Plan

Uncategorized No Comments

This may be the only post you’ll ever see on this blog that’s not about our children, so enjoy it!

If you haven’t heard of The Pickens Plan, it’s T. Boone Pickens’ proposal to end our dependence on foreign oil. It’s a pretty clear fact that our consumption and usage of foreign oil is grinding our economy to a halt, and it will only get worse as worldwide supply decreases while our demand increases. The Pickens Plan proposes alternative solutions to oil - natural gas (as a bridge to a more permanent solution) and wind energy.

Although I think that the idea of using natural gas as a bridge is both stupid and suspect (Pickens has quite an investment in the natural gas sector), the data supporting some of his assertions is pretty astounding (and comes from impartial sources).

As imports grow and world prices rise, the amount of money we send to foreign nations every year is soaring. At current oil prices, we will send $700 billion dollars out of the country this year alone — that’s four times the annual cost of the Iraq war.

Projected over the next 10 years the cost will be $10 trillion — it will be the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of mankind.

A 2005 Stanford University study found that there is enough wind power worldwide to satisfy global demand 7 times over — even if only 20% of wind power could be captured.

You may have read recently about Texas’ plan to invest almost $5 billion in wind energy infrastructure - this is just the first step in what is likely to be a bevy of legislative moves to support efforts like the Pickens Plan. I would hope that we support future efforts such as this, as well as the legislators who put their names at the bottom of each bill.

Why do I post this? Perhaps it’s a hope that our gargantuan democracy can somehow still be driven by grassroots efforts. Perhaps I feel more socially responsible now that we have three new American citizens in our home. Maybe I’m just tired of $4.00 gas!

Fireworks!

The Scurry fireworks show was quite a spectacle - I’m not sure if the kids enjoyed the “real” fireworks, or the awesome kids packs that Netta and Papaw bought for them to shoot off in the parking lot!

Fourth of July Weekend at the Farm

For the Fourth of July, we had our first ever “all family” sleepover at Netta and Papaw’s farm. Pam and Ralph Seely were kind enough to lend their house to Kathleen, Joshua, Andrew, and I (as well as Traci and Chad), while Kaylen and Bailey spent the night with Netta and Papaw in the camper. We had fun in the pool, in the swings, and at Aiden’s birthday party!

Some great pictures of all three kids together. Poor little Andrew is dwarfed next to the others!
